Sprinklers distribute water in a hemispherical pattern below the deflector. In a fire, heat causes the fluid in the glass bulb to expand, shattering the glass and releasing the spring seal assembly. Water goes from the opening to the sprinkler deflector, which distributes the water into a consistent spray pattern that extinguishes or suppresses the fire.
